The world has lived to see many diseases and plagues. Some have been known to wipe out entire generations of people. Screen Addiction the “Black Death” in Europe is considered today to be the most deadly plague in history, which hit every 1 out of 3 people. However, we might just be experiencing a disease far greater than the Black Death. It has victims all across the globe and affects 99 out of every 100 people. Yes, that is exactly how intense it is, and ironically, most people don’t even know about it.
You see it is not a plague which kills.
In fact, no one has ever died just because of this plague. But, its reach is far deeper than just physical infliction. It is a MENTAL disease; it affects the mind. Which plague or disease am I talking about? The Screen Addiction – the plague of the modern age. It doesn’t just affect you mentally either. It also creates a prison and entraps you inside; a prison for your mind.
What this basically does is to engulf you completely into the world of games and technology. You forget who is around you and move away from your social life. Some people are so addicted to this that they go for hours on end without break for food or sleep. They eventually come to see that the real world is a counterfeit. Thus, they start living in their own world, full of games and imagination.
That does sound fascinating to some, but it has been considered as a clinical disorder by some Chinese doctors, who also try and fix this through rehabilitation centers where the affected people are kept away from technology and online media until they don’t feel the need of using it again.
This “plague” is now so spread out that the results can be seen on a global scale. In fact, they can be measured. From the age of 8-10, the average child spends 10 hours a day on any kind of screen. Teens spend more than 11 hours! Television is the most effective tool for the spread of this disease, while computers, mobile phones, and tablets are catching up.
That goes to show how even toddlers are being allowed to use such media to entertain themselves. These kids should rather be involved in other social activities and should interact with their surroundings to learn more. Yet, this technology has become the new ‘babysitter’ for these parents, especially in America.
With screens becoming the first thing a toddler sees when he is born, the negative effects are immeasurable. Just to name a few, the kid’s school life, social life, and actions are completely destroyed. The teen that watches or plays games of violence can get used to it and become violent himself. The school would become harder if you have Screen Addiction. All in all, it is the worst replacement for personal interaction.
